Charlie Deckard is a regular guy, well a regular guy who steals priceless artifacts, anyway. Charlie gets hired to go snag a goodie for this professor who, unbeknownst to Charlie, belongs to a secret society called the Black Order. They want to see the world in utter chaos and are using Charlie as a pawn. The item he is seeking is actually Pandora’s Box and the Black Order figures he’ll die when he opens the box. However, their plan backfires as Charlie survives and becomes forever intwined with Pandora’s Box. In fact, Charlie is the only one who can now close it, so the fate of the world is in his hands.
Legendary: The Box, coming this Fall to the PC, 360 and PS3, will have you, as Charlie, taking on not only the mythical creatures who have been encased in the box for thousands of years, creatures such as werewolves and gryphons, but also members of the Black Order who want to stop you from stopping them. You’ll watch as these beasts raze New York to the ground and burn London to a crisp. The A.I. is crazy sharp and will hunt you down, destroying whatever is in their way to get to you.
The area I got to play had you and your men trapped in an alley, with werewolves coming at you from every direction. These guys scale the walls like it is nothing and it’s really disconcerting to have to watch not only what is in front of and behind you, but also what’s above. It really adds another level to the gameplay and a scary one at that. Once we worked our way through the members of the Black Order and the werewolves (with a little help from the very angry super-werewolf that we released from his bonds), we were faced with a huge Minotaur, and this guy does not play nice! He literally destroyed the courtyard searching for us. Woe to the poor foot soldier who came in between the Minotaur and me because he became ground meat in short order.
The gameplay is fast and furious and might I say, pretty damn hard. The area we saw was about mid-way through the game, so by that time, you will have had plenty of time to get familiar with your weapons and combat mechanics. They also had the difficulty dialed up to Hard, and yes, it was hard. Legendary is definitely not going to be a title you’ll breeze through. If you don’t already know Spark Unlimited, the team is composed of developers who worked on the first two versions of Medal of Honor (back when it was really good and innovative) and these guys were just tired of the same old WWII shooters. They hope to bring you something fresh and different and from what I’ve seen, they are well on their way.
Legendary: The Box hits the scene this Fall and it’s definitely one to watch. |
