i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless
Score: 91%
Developer: DreamGEAR
Device Type: Controller

Function:

Functionally, the i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless controller is just a wireless replacement for a PS2 dual analog stick with a turbo feature. Aesthetically, i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless has an electro-bling quality to it. The ?Unique Surface Texturing? is much like a crackle paint finish, but when accompanied with the internal LEDs that light up the controller, it has a cool lightning-like appearance.

Performance:

DreamGEAR?s i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless comes all pimped out with an aesthetically pleasing surface texture and internal LED lights and chrome painted accents. The rubberized grips on the side and the ergonomic design help you keep your grip while playing. I found that the i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless is a bit heavy, probably due to the four AAA batteries, but overall, it?s very comfortable to use.

I found that the i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless was very responsive while playing my games. The controller goes into its Sleep mode only if you pause the game or leave it unattended for an extended period of time. When in this mode, I typically turned it off and right back on and it was instantly detected by the receiver, so I could keep on playing.

The Turbo feature is pretty nice. It?s very easy to set up and use, and just as easy to deactivate. Holding down an action button (including the shoulder buttons) and pressing the Turbo button toggles the Turbo setting for that button. There is only one speed setting ? the default ? but it seems to do the job decently in the games I?ve used it with.

The ?dual shock? feature that typically wires PS2 controllers is absent in the i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless controller. Actually, this isn?t a big surprise, as the vibration feature uses a lot more battery power than the LEDs do. If you?re looking for the rumble, keep looking. If you?re looking for a cool wireless controller, this is the perfect candidate.

  • Requires four AAA batteries (not included)

Drawbacks & Problems::

Requires Four AAA Batteries - Not Included. I fully understand that there are devices that need to be battery operated. What I don?t understand is why any product would not include them in the package. The only indication that batteries aren?t included is a small bit of text on the bottom left-hand side of the back panel of the package. If someone receives this as a gift and doesn?t get the required batteries at the same time, they won?t be able to use it until they get around to getting the batteries. This is a pet peeve, I suppose, but c?mon!

I am a bit concerned with the idea of putting lights inside of a wireless controller. This means that the batteries are not only powering the RF signal, but the LED lights as well. At least they are LED lights. LEDs are the most energy efficient lighting choice these days. I have played some demanding games with the i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless and my batteries have not shown any signs of running down yet, so perhaps the battery drain is not all that significant.

If you?re looking for a wireless PS2 controller and you like the idea of a glowing controller, then the i.Glow 2.4Ghz Wireless could be the controller you?ve been looking for.
