FPS Freek Havoc
Score: 95%
Developer: KontrolFreek
Device Type: Controller
Compatible With:

Function:

Ever wished you had a better degree of control, when using those small, short rubber nubs they call Analog Sticks on modern console controllers? They replaced the large-throw digital sticks for tiny analog ones, effectively trading out one shortcoming for a different one. You want more control? You need a bigger stick. The FPS Freek gives you just that. And now, there are a few different styles to choose from...

If you're a Call of Duty fan, you may prefer the FPS Freek Havoc; inspired by Call of Duty, it features a skull-in-crosshairs grip that is as stylish as it is, well, grippy.

Performance:

Performance-wise and functionally, the FPS Freek Havoc works just the same as the FPS Freek - or, perhaps, like the more recently released FPS CQC: it features a concave thumb surface and adds a bit of height to give you better accuracy and precision when playing.

Like all of the KontrolFreeks I've tried so far, they fit snugly on the Analog Sticks of the OEM PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers, so you can play as rough as you normally would without fear of them popping off of your Xbox 360 or PS3 OEM controller.

Unlike the CQC, however, the FPS Freek Havoc is a normal height extension, in that regard being much like the original FPS Freek, adding a full half-inch to the stick height.

The FPS Freek Havoc features a concave thumb surface, cupped so that your finger can rest in it and the laser-etched rubber thumb surface provides even enough grip for when the competition has you sweating bullets.

The black-on-black color scheme helps the Havocs blend in to your existing controller, remaining understated, while the skull-in-the-cross-hairs says... well, I think everyone gets that message loud and clear.

Drawbacks & Problems::

FPS Freeks are one of those things that I, personally, like to keep in play. I take them off if a small child or pet might be able to get hold of them, but, otherwise, I'm generally content to keep them attached to get the extra control when I'm playing. There aren't a lot of products that holds true for, given that I review a wide variety of products.

The only problem or drawback (other than the small child / pet choking hazard thing) is the price. It may be difficult to invest $20 on something that merely enhances your existing controller. However, if you consider the fact that you can take the FPS Freek of your choice with you to a friend's house to enhance his controller (for your personal use) while you're there, you can use a single pack on two controllers if you only want to enhance a single stick and you can use them on multiple controllers from multiple companies for multiple systems, it gets a little easier to justify the purchase.

Also, as of this writing, the FPS Freek Havoc is marked down from $19.99 USD to $13.99 USD on KontrolFreeks' Website (link below). So, check out their varieties, choose wisely, then... step up your game.
