Until it came in for review, I had never heard of Legend of the Seeker. For me, that's pretty shocking because I usually at least know what TV shows I am missing. Of course, apparently a lot of other people have heard of it, because it won an Emmy award in its first season! Legend of the Seeker is loosely based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind. Season One is based on the first book, Wizard's First Rule.

Legend of the Seeker starts off with two sisters trying to outrun a group of guards. One is shot, but the other, Kahlan Amnell (Bridget Regan), who is also known as the Confessor, escapes with a book across the Boundary. Apparently, the boundary requires you to have magic to cross. Then we switch over to a young, very fit, man building a bridge. He sees Kahlan still running from the guards and goes to her rescue. It turns out that she's very powerful on her own, if she can touch you. The young man, Richard Cypher (Craig Horner), finds out that he had no clue who he really is or what his destiny is. He is the one true Seeker in 1000 years. The Confessor has come to protect him with her life and help him with his destiny, which is to seek out the greatest evil in the world, Darken Rahl (Craig Parker), and destroy him. Did I mention Richard gets a magic sword, the Sword of Truth, and a book which contains the secrets of great power? He learns all this from the wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander (Bruce Spence) or Zed for short, who saved him as a child. Together, the Seeker, the Confessor, and the Wizard will have to hunt down the evil Darken Rahl and save the world.

So far, Legend of the Seeker sounds quite exciting, huh? Well, it really is and that excitement never lets up throughout the series. Once the boundary is breeched, this newly formed group is really going to have to work. Not only do they have to find and defeat Darken Rahl, but along the way, they have to save every town they find from the clutches of Darken Rahl. This isn't always easy, though. The people have been so long without a hero that they don't remember what it's like to have hope in someone. When Darken Rahl puts a bounty out on the Seeker's head, life is even more difficult for them!

Throughout their journey, the love between Kahlan and Richard grows stronger and deeper. Unfortunately, they can never be together, but that doesn't stop either of them from loving each other more. Several times in their journeys, they come across objects that would be very useful in helping their relationship be allowed, but each time it seems like something else gets in the way. I know I'm really hoping that eventually these two will find a way to be together, because I don't think I've seen a better couple ever! This doesn't mean that there aren't others trying to gain their affections, Richard's in particular. When he runs into a particular Mord'Sith, things really get interesting. The Mord'Sith are truly bad news and very powerful. They can break anyone to their will and deflect magic back at the caster. Can they manage to break the Seeker?

When they find a true Seer, things really get interesting. Have you ever seen the Twilight Zone episode with the kid who sends people to the cornfield when they upset him? This kid isn't far off from that and looks like him as well. But when given a chance, will he change and become a good kid? Not too long after this, Richard finally finds his mother, and finds out much more! Zed also returns home to see his family for the first time in 23 years. That's a long time to make amends for disappearing!

Richard reminds me of a younger version of Mal from Firefly, same personality and attitude. He's serious when he needs to be, but he's also got a humorous side when he can feel free to show it. For those of you who loved the big sword fights from movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, you'll love this series. I am quite sure you get at least one huge sword fight with lots of people involved per episode. Granted, it is usually lots of men versus Richard and Kahlan, which just makes it even better. When Kahlan goes into a "Blood Rage," it's really awesome. I realize that she hates the power because it scares her and she has no control, but it's a truly awesome power!

Legend of the Seeker has a very conclusive finale, which is nice. The season can stand on its own without leaving it hanging on a major cliffhanger. Even still, I'm dying to find out what Season Two will bring! I would highly recommend Legend of the Seeker to anyone! It's got action, adventure, and just a little romance. It really is the best series I've seen since Firefly, I just hope that it lasts a lot longer! Go buy Legend of the Seeker today, I promise you'll love it!
