At first, Catherine is upset when Chloe begins to tell her how David has become intrigued with her and has begun pursuing her. As time goes by and Catherine and Chloe meet to discuss the turn of events, Catherine seems to be enjoying hearing of Chloe and David's exploits, almost as if she feels a stronger connection with him, even as her marriage is crumbling. Catherine wakes up and decides she needs to end her business transaction with Chloe, but not in time to prevent Chloe from getting her hooks into David, Catherine herself and even their handsome young son. Can she salvage her marriage, family and sanity before it is too late?
Chloe was a peculiar yet interesting film. It felt like a more upscale Poison Ivy, but with more twists and turns. I will say that while watching the movie, I came up with several scenarios of what I thought was actually happening and none was quite right. There is at least one "gotcha" moment where the clarity of the true crux of the plot presents itself and it works for the movie.
Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried are all excellent actors and play their roles very well. All are very believable and you'll both feel for and dislike them at the appropriate times. It's difficult to watch a lovely woman like Julianne Moore aging and questioning her attractiveness, but she pulls it off flawlessly and Amanda Seyfried has just the right amount of sensual innocence and wily sexuality to perfectly play her role. Liam Neeson is, as always, the handsome rogue we know and love.
While not the typical movie that needs to be viewed in high definition, Chloe actually greatly benefits from its Blu-ray format because of the Canadian scenery and especially the gorgeous and starkly modern home where a large part of the film takes place. Outside shots are quite crisp, while the love scenes have a much different softness to them. As far as special features, they are pretty slim and limited to a handful of deleted scenes, commentary with the director and screenwriter, and a making-of featurette. The deleted scenes shed a tad more light on the story, but were smartly deleted and the making-of was fairly boring, to be honest.
Chloe is a decent thriller with good acting, but it isn't the type of film you'd watch over and over. It would make a good rental if you are in the mood for a sexual thriller, but it's not for the prudish since they don't mind showing a little skin and some pretty mature themes are explored here.
