The older couple, Jeff (Patrick Warburton) and Audrey (Megyn Price) pretty much stay the same this season as the glue that holds the series together, but this season their desire to have a child takes a more prominent role as they try everything from fertility doctors to hormones to even looking into a surrogate mother.
Meanwhile, the engaged Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) have finally set a date which, with the help of Russell and Jeff, makes Adam nervous as he realizes that his days before getting married are now, literally, numbered.
The relationships between the main five characters pretty much stays the same as it was before. Of course, the addition of Timmy adds a nice dynamic, especially when Timmy's arranged marriage future wife comes into town to meet Timmy for the first time. Why this shakes things up a bit is because Russell falls in love with her at first sight. Followers of the show might not find this surprising since he enjoys the company of pretty much any woman who walks near him, but he feels this one is different, and because of his friendship with Timmy, he does everything in his power to keep from making a move on her. Timmy's fiancee is in the picture for three or four episodes, but like every good sitcom, as soon as she is out of sight, she is out of mind.
I enjoyed Timmy's character a whole lot this season. He adds an interesting new spin to the series and the relationship between he and Russell, his boss, is hilarious, especially during the times when Timmy either tries to get back at Russell for all of the menial tasks he is forced to perform, or tries to teach Russell to be a better person.
While it's a shame Rules of Engagement: The Complete Fourth Season is only 13 episodes long and there aren't any special features on the DVDs, it is still a fun show to watch. It is more of a rental than an all out purchase, especially since there doesn't seem to be much cause to go back and re-watch earlier episodes. It is something to put on your Netflix list when you are looking for a humorous series to watch.
