Assassination Games opens at a happy place, a wedding in Romania. Unfortunately, it will not be happy for long, as the father of the bride is assassinated at the reception by Vincent Brazil (Jean-Claude Van Damme). Brazil is tough. He's a no nonsense man who does his job quickly and cleanly. He's got a highly sophisticated secret lair hidden behind a really shabby looking apartment with an amazing collection of art, music and diamonds, among other things. Roland Flint is very different from Brazil. Flint used to be an assassin for Interpol. He was their best, but he left for personal reasons that left his wife, Anna (Bianca Van Varenberg), comatose. Now the Interpol cops need to get rid of Roland Flint. They decide to set a trap to lure him out.

Roland's former friend Culley (Kevin Chapman) shows up and tells Roland that he has a job for him: assassinate Polo Yakur (Ivan Kaye). Polo is a drug kingpin and Roland hates him for personal reasons. Polo and his men are the reason Anna is now comatose, and Roland is the reason that Polo was finally put away in the first place. He is now being released, however. Roland doesn't want to take the job as he really just wants to be out of the business, but he can't resist the chance to even the score for Anna and himself. He simply can't get the incident out of his head, out of his dreams, and out of his life. Brazil has also been hired to hit Polo since Roland originally turned down the job. For Brazil, it is simply about the money. As you can guess, two hit men after one target isn't the most optimal of scenarios. Their first attempt goes wrong since they don't know that each other exist. Of course, Roland has the added problem of being targeted by the officials who want to tie up that loose end.

October (Marija Karan) is Brazil's neighbor. She and her companion (pimp) just moved into the building. When October's screams disturb Brazil's peace, he beats up her pimp and sends him away. Brazil takes pity on the frightened woman, mainly to get her to quiet down though. He takes her in and gives her some salve to help with the wounds from the beating. He even goes as far as to let her stay in his place (the shabby part, not the hidden part) while he leaves to go find Polo again. This time though, he runs into Roland, which was bound to happen. Roland doesn't want the money, so he convinces Brazil that they should just work together rather than stepping on each other's toes over and over. They are very different in their opinions on how to do things and working together isn't easy. Roland is emotional; he cares about people. Brazil is as cold and hard as a robot, showing no feelings. But they're both damn good at what they do! Things aren't going to be easy on them when their opponents team up. Their skills are really going to be put to the test if they want to take this target out.

The DVD also has Deleted Scenes available as well, but I can see why most of them were deleted. The story is much better without those scenes. Assassination Games was a bit difficult to get into in the beginning as the first 10 minutes or so are confusing, but purposeful, to set the movie up. Once it got going, I really enjoyed it. The plotline was pretty original and the ending was wonderful. If you're looking for a good action movie with intrigue, I recommend that you check out Assassination Games today!
