The movie moves on to Eva (Carolien Spoor), who is studying to be a vet, but she finds it difficult to cut open the animals as she doesn't want to hurt them. Instead of cutting open one of the lab rats, she keeps it as a pet and names it Dino (after her ex). She also wants to be an actress, which would mean a lot less hurting animals. She's not having any luck finding a role though as she just doesn't get any roles, probably because she doesn't put enough emotion in to make it feel believable. Eva rents a new apartment, one that the previous tenant just disappeared from and left all of her stuff. The landlord Jaap (Rogier Philipoom) tells her that the woman just ran off owing 3 months rent. This doesn't bother Eva, so she moves in with the help of her best friend, Cynthia (Juliette van Ardenne). While moving in, they meet her downstairs neighbor, Alex (Dragan Bakema).
Cynthia takes Eva out after she fails an audition and Cynthia fails a test. Alex is at the club and Cynthia flirts with him and everyone else she can. Cynthia convinces Eva to go with her to Alex's place for a drink after the club, but Eva goes back to her own place that night and falls asleep on the couch. When she wakes up, she is chained to the floor and lying on a cot in a room with no way out. She has no clue who has kidnapped her and why, nor does she have any idea where she is located. There's not much else she can do, so finally she sleeps. When she wakes up, she finds food on the nightstand next to the cot and a man dressed in black wearing a hood over his face sitting in the corner of the room. He won't tell her anything, though. Eva isn't going to take this lying down. She's going to fight back as much as she can, but that is hard when you're chained up. She thinks she is saved when Detective Danny de Koning (Thijs Römer) comes to investigate her disappearance, but sometimes a gal just has to save herself, if she can.
I really enjoyed Claustrofobia. I did find that it was a bit predictable at times, but then there were other things that I didn't see coming at all. Claustrofobia is director Bobby Boermans' first full length film, but I really hope it isn't his last. If you're looking for a good thriller and don't mind reading subtitles (the movie is in Dutch only), check out Claustrofobia as it is definitely worth watching.
