LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu contains the first two episodes of the CG animated series featuring one of LEGO's newer line of toys. These first two episodes introduce us to the world of Ninjago, the heroes and the villains, and, at least from the little bit I’ve seen so far, it looks like it will be a fun series to keep up with.

Back in ancient times, one martial arts master developed Spinjitzu, a powerful art that had a massive amount of power. He also developed four golden weapons. When he died, he passed on his legacy to his two sons and they were meant to keep the weapons safe. Unfortunately, the older brother, Lord Garmadon, wanted to possess all four weapons and a fight broke out between him and his sibling, Sensei Wu. When Wu won, he banished his older brother to the underworld.

Many years later, Wu hid the weapons and gave the map to their locations to a trustworthy man. That man was the father of Nya and Kai, and when Garmadon’s henchmen show up in their village and steal Nya, her brother joins up with Wu to learn Spinjitzu in order to save her.

In Kai's training, he learns of three other warriors that are under the tutelage of Sensei Wu, and when their training is complete, each one is pronounced the master of a particular element. Kai is fire, Cole is the master of Earth, Zane, a man with the gift of visions, takes Ice and Jay, an inventor, is lightning.

Their first mission before attempting to save Nya is to seek out the lost weapons and claim their power. As expected, each weapon is associated with an element and they consist of the Sword of Fire, Scythe of Quakes, Shurikens of Ice and the Nunchucks of Lightning. The only thing that truly stands in their way, besides Lord Garmadon (who still wants the weapons for himself), is a guardian elemental dragon set to protect each of the items.

LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu only contains the first two episodes of the series, but they are a fun selection. The show is filled with silly gags that are bound to amuse kids of all ages (even this 30 year-old one), and while the animation feels a little rocky at times, most of the show's CG gets the job done. This particular DVD's only special feature is a short fake-blooper reel, but even that will definitely cause some giggles in younger viewers.

If you or your child like LEGOs, then this is definitely a show to keep an eye on.
