Bitten: The Complete Second Season picks up following the brutal Mutt attack on Stonehaven, home of the Danvers family and homestead of the North American werewolf pack. The Pack is hurting, having lost several of their own, and the Alpha, Jeremy Danvers (Greg Bryk), is seen as weak by the Alphas of the other Packs worldwide. Worse yet, it seems the man responsible for the entire Mutt uprising is none other than Jeremy's father and former Alpha, Malcolm Danvers, long since thought dead. If Jeremy hopes to remain Alpha, he must find and kill Malcolm as proof of his worth. However, Malcolm and his merry band of serial killers-turned-werewolves will soon be the least of The Pack's worries. They soon find themselves battling witches on their own turf... but all is not what it seems.

The witches, coven leader Ruth Winterborne (Tammy Isbell) and her fiery daughter Paige (Tommie-Amber Pirie), have actually come seeking help from The Pack. It seems the two groups, long kept secret from the human world, both have a common enemy named Aleister (Sean Rogerson) and he has not only kidnapped the coven's youngest witch Savannah (Kiara Glasco) for his evil purposes, but he also wants his clutches on Elena Michaels (Laura Vandervoort), the only female werewolf in existence. You can be sure his plans will put both groups of supernaturals in harm's way.

Needless to say, last season's events have set Elena on a terrible path of vengeance against the Mutts, but will she be able to soften her heart and let Clayton (Greyston Holt) back in again? Speaking of Clay, we also get to see a good bit of his backstory and how he was Changed when he was a child in Baton Rouge, LA, a city I've lived in much of my life and one that does not consist only of fields, shacks and trailers, as portrayed in the show. Just sayin'. Meanwhile, Logan (Michael Xavier) has troubles of his own, since his pregnant fiance Rachel (Genelle Williams) has been kidnapped, and he will stop at nothing to see her and his child safe once again. But, will he defy the rules of The Pack and become a Mutt to be with Rachel and his child, or will he do as he must and take the child from Rachel to be raised with his werewolf brothers? Finally, we get to see a different side of Nick (Steve Lund), indiscriminate playboy up to now. Nick was recently dealt a harsh blow and he is forced to mature, but he'll have a few surprises of his own this season; could true love be knocking at his door in the form of young witch Paige?

Just like the First Season, Bitten: The Complete Second Season is chock full of action. I did find that there didn't seem to be quite as many gratuitous sex scenes this season, but it's still there. It's just not the "beautiful people get naked constantly" show, or not as much, anyway. What was there made sense in the context of the show and I found it to be more enjoyable. It was more of an action thriller and less of a sex-fueled soap opera about werewolves. They've also way upped the blood, gore and horror aspect of the show. It's much darker this season, with Elena finally embracing her werewolf side and no longer trying to fit in with the humans.

Everyone plays their parts wonderfully, just as they did last season, and I really enjoyed the addition of the witches. Kiara Glasco, who plays young Savannah, does a fantastic job, as do Tommie-Amber Pirie and Tammy Isbell. Sean Rogerson as Aleister is a great villain. He is both a charmer and a destroyer - the perfect combination in a mystical cult leader.

As for special features, there are over two hours worth. There are behind-the-scenes and stunt featurettes, a gag reel, deleted and extended scenes, the super creepy video used in the "Gentling Room" (the brain-washing room of the cultists, led by Aleister) in the show, the full NY Comic Con Panel and finally, an episode of the after-show for the season finale called Innerspace: After Bite. All are fun for fans to watch and I was really intrigued to learn that most of the actors do their own stunts. Especially impressive is Laura Vandervoort, who is a second degree black belt in some martial art I couldn't quite understand. The girl kicks ass in real life as well!

If you enjoyed Bitten: The Complete First Season, you'll definitely want to see how the characters have evolved and the storylines continue in Bitten: The Complete Second Season. I hope that the coven members come back from time to time in future episodes. The season finale was not quite as shocking as last season's, but one thing is for sure: it's clear The Pack will never be able to rest and just lead a simple life at Stonehaven.
