MGOnline Expands, Gets World Championship

Company: Konami
Product: MGOnline

Metal Gear Online might still be in its infancy, but that isn't stopping Konami from holding the first ever Metal Gear Online World Championship. Taking place at this year's Tokyo Game Show this October, the Metal Gear World Championship is open to the best players in North America, Europe, Japan and Greater Asia.

Konami will take the top teams, decided in Regional Championships, on a all-expenses paid trip to Tokyo. While there, the teams will get a chance to check out the show and compete in the Finals. Konami will kick off the event at this year's ComiCon in San Diego, CA, being held July 24 - 27. Comicon attendees will be able to register at the event and compete for prizes.

New details will be available in upcoming weeks.

In addition, Konami has also released the first of several planned expansion packs for MGOnline. The Gene Expansion pack, which is available for $11.99 over PSN, contains new content for the MGOnline, including new maps, characters and modes. A special Gene Expansion Plus is also available for $14.99 and includes everything from the Gene Pack and one additional character slot. Full details are listed below.

With the release of the expansion pack, Konami has launched MGOnline Reward Points and an in-game shop. Both are free to all MGOnline players. MGOnline Points are awarded based on in-game performance as well as by filling out questionnaires and winning tournaments. Points can be exchanged for new items in the Reward Shop including clothing, head gear, body armor and additional gear colors.

Both the Gene Expansion packs and OGOnline Reward Points system are currently available for download.

Gene Expansion pack details:
