As already mentioned, gameplay in
Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb is reminiscent of the
Tomb Raider series of games. Here the gaming style seems less rigid though, and although there are a number of puzzles, most levels really just require one to traverse through the environment, fight a number of foes, and reach the end of the level.
Although gameplay isn't staggeringly deep, it is varied, as one can use a number of different weapons during combat, including guns, a whip, shovels, bottles, and swords. Beyond combat, there is quite a bit of jumping, swinging, and otherwise getting around, and this is handled in some innovative ways. For instance, many times Indy has to use his whip to swing across crevices, but after he's fallen into a hole, he can climb, jump, or shimmy his way out.
