Prima Donna: Bless This Mess

I was recently introduced to the band Prima Donna in their CD Bless This Mess. The band originated out of Los Angeles and began their career in 2003. Their third and latest album, Bless This Mess, was released in February and is a collection of 12 songs -- and I love just about all of them. Prima Donna opened for Glen Matlock (formally with the Sex Pistols) & the Philistines on their U.S. tour, and from what I've heard, they have carried on the Pistol's dynamic energy throughout this album. Tracks like "Miss Avenue" and "Crimson Lust" interested me the most.

Considering the fact that Prima Donna hasn't officially been out for a full decade, this is a group that has taken on the hefty challenge of bringing together the classic styles of rock and alternative pop. Guitarists Kevin Preston (vocalist), Erik Arcane, and Lights Out Levine shred out the chords while David S. Field keeps the beat on the drums. Aaron Minton plays on keyboard or saxophone, an instrument long put away from the rock world. I was surprised and happy to hear this sound again in two of their tracks. Kevin sings in tune with the band's music and has the talent of a classic rock star, without fail.

Bless This Mess, a product of Acetate Records, is an album that puts out everything you would expect from an L.A. band -- glam attitude, loads of excess, and true rock 'n roll. With influences from both American glam greats and Britain's new wave, Prima Donna's 2012 Bless This Mess carries on the punk spirit of '77 and is absolutely a top-notch pick for today and yesterday's rock lover.
