Buried Alive is a new horror flick based on the FEARnet series. Even though it is short, only 65 minutes, it is packed with torture and death, but nothing so gory that you can't stand to watch it, though.

In Buried Alive, a group of very immature college age students, who have been friends since high school, find themselves underground, kidnapped and buried by an unknown assailant. Each of them is in a coffin of a different design, their own personal hell. One of them is covered in the creepiest doll heads that make an even creepier sound, one has water all around her and it is rising, one is surround by bubble wrap, one is in a hunting themed coffin, and one has wires all around him that can shock him at anytime. Each of them has a clue inside their coffins, though. If they for once work as actual friends would, then they might at least figure out who has put them there and why.

There are two people on the outside that might be able to help them. Melanie (Brit Morgan) is determined to find her girlfriend, Sage (Nikki McKenzie). Sage is the one surrounded by dolls, just in case you were wondering. Melanie is continually posting webcam blogs and videos hoping that someone will give her information about where Sage is. Melanie's brother Travis (Jeff Blum) is videoing the whole search. He has done a lot of camera work in the past with this group.

Most of the story is told in flashbacks to previous group "fun" activities. Mostly of the time this fun included making fun of other people, in particular, a kid they went to high school with named Tommy (Augusto Aguilar). To make matters worse, Tommy is in love with one of the group, Becca (Greyson Chadwick). Becca is at least nice to him, but doesn't return his affection. The rest of the group picks on him even more for it.

Honestly, the characters aren't really likeable as people, so we didn't care that they were being tortured and/or killed. But that is perfectly acceptable for a horror movie. You don't have to like the characters in horror. Sometimes it's quite a bit more fun when you're rooting for them to die. The actors did a really good job of being horrible to each other. I think they must have gone to my high school to be so practiced at being that mean to each other and yet still call themselves friends.

Just in case you want more torture scenes, the DVD also includes quite a few deleted scenes. I guess they filmed a whole bunch, picked which ones they wanted to put in the movie and made the rest into deleted scenes. There's also commentary and a making-of feature available to keep you even more entertained.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed Buried Alive. It was short, but that just meant that the action started from the beginning of the movie and you just figured out things as they went. We did guess early on who was doing it, but there were still some surprises at the end. If you like horror like Saw, I bet you will enjoy Buried Alive. You should go buy it today!
