For everyone reading this, I want you to click Here and just listen while you read, because there are no words that can fully describe the sounds that these people created. The closest I can come is a combination of Iron Maiden and Iced Earth fronted by a musical demoness. As I said, Kobra Paige is the lead singer. She is backed by Jasio Kulakowski and Charlie Parra del Riego on guitars, bassist Pete Dimov, and drummer Griffin Kissack. Kobra’s voice is amazing. She can pull off such lows and highs without a single hesitation, making it all sound so easy. To match that, the guitar solos are some of the fastest and yet precise that I’ve heard in a long time. As I’ve said before, metal drummers are something out of this world with the speed and power they produce. Griffin is no exception to this rule. You can hear the blood, sweat, and tears every one of these members has put into making their self-titled debut album.
The first song on Kobra and The Lotus is called "50 Shades of Evil" and it is one of my favorite on the album. I love the play on Fifty Shades of Grey, which I am quite sure was intentional in a song about lust and desire. Along with "Lover of the Beloved," "50 Shades of Evil" has been stuck in my head since I first heard it. These are both faster tempo songs that have a steady and very catchy sound. "No Rest for the Wicked" is another one that really caught my ear. It is one of the fastest on the album with an almost haunting quality, which perfectly matches the almost haunting lyrics about loss. Not everything is fast though. "Sanctuary" is a beautiful, slightly slower song, which captures the emptiness and loneliness that almost all of us have understood all too well at many times in our lives. The emotions that Kobra and The Lotus have managed to capture and retell are just one more thing that has me completely enthralled with the band on this wonderful debut album.
It’s rare that I find a band that captivates me as completely as Kobra and The Lotus have. I predict great things to come from these musicians. Luckily, they are on tour now and are actually coming near me on Friday, May17th, so expect a full review of their show as well. I expect that it will be even more amazing than the album! If you’re a metal fan, you must go pick up Kobra and The Lotus today!
